Wasaga beach has been one of the most sucessful nesting grounds for piping plovers in Ontario. This could only happen through the the effort, protection, and management of Ontario Parks. Maintaining one of the few habitats left for these endangered birds is essential and transfer of the land to the Town of Wasaga Beach with a lack of provincial aid would be unbelievably detrimental to the piping plover population that is already bleak to begin with. Wasaga beach has been a popular location for birding tourists to visit and can only continue to do so with the continued efforts to provide their habitat. The Ontario Government has to ensure that piping plovers are protected by management plans that commit funding to the project and reduce any threats to the population.
