I recently visited Sauble Falls PP & Sauble/Saugeen Beach. The history of that area, especially the importance of the sand dunes, was very informative.
In my visits to Wasaga Beach I've already seen a lack of understanding and respect from visitors re: the importance and sensitivity of dune areas. We need to be doing more to educate & protect, especially in that area where an endangered species (piping Oliver) is showing signs of recovery. Our provincial parks system has this as their mandate, and just seeing the PP designation is a reminder to visitors that they are expected to behave in a responsible manner, with a clear financial penalty if they do not. This type of understanding & enforcement would be more difficult under town or private ownership as there would be no requirement for consistency. Over time, protection would likely lapse in favour of profits.
I expect our government to protect environmentally sensitive areas and endangered species for future generations. I do NOT support these proposed changes.
