I have been fortunate enough to view Piping Plovers on their breeding grounds in Saskatchewan and Nova Scotia. Although I was at Wasaga Beach on that cross-Canada trip, I did not see them there. I hope that the Province of Ontario will retain its responsibility to protect breeding habitat for these little birds.

If you do transfer ownership of the Beach to the town, will you please ensure that it
- reduces threats to Piping Plover and their habitat year-round by restricting mechanical raking so that the habitat is not destroyed,
- prohibits dune alteration.
- protects nests with fenced buffer zones and natural predator mitigations.

To that end, will the Province please commit s funding to protect, conserve, and steward Piping Plovers, their nests, and their habitats.

It would be a win/win to engage experts like Birds Canada at development and implementation phases.

We are doing great harm to our environment and the other species that share it with us; it would be good to see the Province of Ontario take this small step to protect one of them.
