Walleye
Given that 1/ there is an existing 2 fish limit with NO size restriction south of Bent Island, and that VERY few anglers are actively participating it that fishery, and 2/ The walleye population in Black Bay appears to be maximized and under no threat from the current regulation, reducing the allowable harvest to the proposed slot size and reducing the season length is unnecessarily restrictive.
1. maintain the existing 2 fish of any size possession limit, and extend it north of Bent Island, to include the entire bay. Maintain the current season (3rd Sat in May until Dec 31 and Jan 1 - April 14).
2. Allow an interim 1 fish limit in the winter fishery (Jan.1 to April 14) until an analysis of effort and harvest can be conducted.
Rainbow Trout
1. Maintain a 1 fish possession limit, however, institute a size restriction in Black Bay and tributaries (69 cm /27-inch minimum size) in an effort to increase adult survival.
Chinook Salmon
1. Given the very low population in Black Bay currently, a 2 fish limit will be a strong first step (and a socially acceptable one) in moving toward protecting the spawning stock and promoting a recovery of the chinook fishery
