I have had a camp on Black Bay, just south of Bent Island, since 2019. During the summer months (June through August), my family and I typically fish for walleye once a week, with the exception of a few weeks during mayfly season when the fish are not biting. Lire davantage

I’ve had a camp on black bay for 6 years and never take more than we need as a family of 4. We often fish out front our camp for walleye and on the odd occasion caught smaller fish. So we are clear when I say smaller fish I mean 20 plus inches. Lire davantage

Nice work on the plan, good to see initiative to bring groups together. This will hopefully keep everyone on board with a lot of feed back. The ability to use fish stocking as a tool to assist is necessary is a nice touch.

We live on Black Bay and yes we strongly agree there should be controls on the number and size of walleye that should be caught. There are a lot of larger walleye but we notice not as many smaller ones in that 16-20 inch size . Yes please save the fishery and let the mature fish reproduce . Lire davantage

Being an avid angler of black bay and it's tributaries i have noticed a substantial drop in the numbers of brook and rainbow trout that use the tributaries for spawning in the spring and fall. I was told that the perch and walleye are eating all the fry when they start to head back to the lake. Lire davantage

As an angler living near blackbay I fully support the opening of a season for walleye. The increase of by catch walleye when targeting spawning salmon has increased to 20:1 in the recent years of my fishing. Lire davantage

ERO # 025-0263 Overall, I think this document is lacking in detail and necessary information (data) to support the regulatory changes presented. Many of the figures are far too complicated for the intended audience of this document. My specific comments are below. Lire davantage

Considering walleye have exploded in Black Bay and the steelhead & salmon numbers have plummeted as a result, there is a better solution than the one currently being considered: Lire davantage

I have been fishing the eastern shore of rivers going into Lake Superior for 40 years. Rivers such as The Wolf River, Jackpine River, Cypress River, and many more. The decline in the various species of sports fish has been very noticeable, especially rainbow, salmon and speckled trout. Lire davantage

I would like to know what information (data) was used to determine the walleye harvestable slot size. I see nothing in the draft plan. For me, this regulation is very restrictive, especially since I only fish the south end of the bay and rarely catch walleye less than 20”. Lire davantage

The Black Bay walleye rehabilitation is a project the MNR should be proud of. When I first received the email for proposed changes I truly believed the open walleye zone in black bay would be extended. Lire davantage
