Plan to Improve Commuter Cycling Networks
•What infrastructure should be prioritized to make cycling in Ontario safer and more convenient to support commuter cycling between residential communities, major transit stations, employment areas and other destinations travelled to on a frequent basis?
-paved shoulders on provincial roads with painted or buffered cycling lanes
-improvements to highway bridges to accommodate for cycling and walking
-creating/enabling connections between on and off-road cycling networks

Local Cycling Infrastructure
•For local cycling networks, what types of cycling infrastructure would best support commuter cycling between residential communities, major transit stations, employment areas and other destinations travelled to on a frequent basis?
-painted bike lanes and separated cycling lanes
-connectivity between on and off-road cycling networks (creation of urban loops)
-signage/way-finding
Provincial Cycling Infrastructure
•What types of cycling infrastructure on provincial highways would best support commuter cycling between residential communities, major transit stations, employment areas and other destinations travelled to on a frequent basis?
-paved shoulders, buffered cycling lanes
-signage (for cyclists - way-finding) and for motorists

Bicycle Parking
•What types of bike parking facilities (e.g., bike racks, lockers, fee-based enclosures) are needed to support cycling for commuting and other frequent trips?
-Bike lockers would improve safety and access, particularly in inclement weather
-Bike racks
•What types of government-owned, publicly accessible facilities should have bike parking?
-Provincial parks, bus terminals, GO Stations, health/medical centres (community health centres, public health units, hospitals, clinics, family health teams)
-funding for bike parking for workplaces and multi-housing complexes
•What types of private facilities could potentially be eligible to receive provincial funding for bicycle parking facilities?
-Workplaces
-Municipally-owned public spaces (arenas, community centres, parks)
-Restaurants

Other considerations:
-Ensure adequate funding is allotted to communicating/raising awareness of any infrastructure changes. An issue we encounter locally is the lack of proper communication about the infrastructure changes and this often leads to issues with overall understanding and acceptance of the changes. Municipalities often have very limited funds and if given the option, will invest in the infrastructure and not necessarily in communicating the changes to the public. It would be interesting if any funding opportunities came with either a) expectations for a communication strategy or b) template communication materials to support municipal partners.
