I am totally against amalgamating the Sudbury Conservation Authority with others. Bigger isn’t always better and we in Sudbury have experienced the results of at least two amalgamations. First was the amalgamations of the 7 municipalities which has led to a high level of dissatisfaction with services, especially in the outlying areas. It’s very doubtful if financial savings were accomplished. The second is our hospital amalgamation, a total disaster. While most municipalities are experiencing huge problems trying to accommodate patient care, Sudbury suffers more I believe because we have fewer beds now than we did before amalgamation. With a growing population and changing demographics (aging population) wait times for medical care are completely unreasonable and have caused dire consequences for many individuals.
I have never heard a complaint about our local Conservation team and the great work they do every single day. With climate change we need staff who are extremely familiar with the Sudbury landscape which is unique.
Please reconsider and be reminded that “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it”.
