The government’s own internal research confirms that bike infrastructure does not negatively impact congestion. Restricting sustainable transportation and limiting people’s ability to choose alternatives to driving is far more likely to make congestion worse.
Beyond the glaring lack of evidence supporting the policies in this bill, it represents unnecessary and wasteful government overreach. A provincial government, particularly one that claims to reduce “red tape”, should not be dictating what municipalities can and cannot do on their own roads to best serve their residents. I am deeply disappointed in this bill and in this government’s ongoing interference in municipal affairs.
