Our small community lies on the banks of the Sydenham River . We are very much a volunteer driven community from putting up lights in the parks for Christmas to maintaining the trees and gardens in the ( SCRCA) park land. We have worked very closely with the SCRCA since we established the arboretum and surrounding parklands. Each year we contact them to turn on the hydro for the Christmas lights and assist with issues we have. They are the instrument our organization uses to issue charitable receipts to those who donate to have trees planted in the parks and arboretum. We presently have a written agreement with the SCRCA and our local municipality to carry out projects on these lands. Will these agreements have to be redrawn under this new regime. Are the powers that be (who will be probably in a metropolis) really care what we are trying to do.
I am sure this is expected to be a cost saving gesture but if history have taught us many times , bigger is not always better. There may be fewer on the payroll but the amount that will have to be paid to added responsibilities will no doubt be much higher and the savings if any will be minimal. Service for sure will be jeopardized in small communities like ours.
Our MPP is new and will agree with whatever is proposed so we cannot count on him as an advocate.
We earnestly request that you reconsider this plan and look at the components of this area with a more critical eye.
