I would ask those who are contemplating introducing new regulations to allow the hunting of double-crested cormorants in Ontario to think again. Lire davantage

Mother nature is definitely out of balance when it comes to the double - crested cormorant. There are just too many of them and with no natural predators, we need a hunting season to bring their numbers under control. Lire davantage

Proposing a hunt for any bird species, particularly colonial nesting species, during the breeding bird season will impact other species that Cormorants nest alongside (e.g., Great Blue Heron, Great Egret, Black-crowned Night-Herons). Lire davantage

This comorant hunt is way overdue. There should be an open season on them all year long. The devastation to the fish and vegetation proves it.

I support this proposal 100%. I have seen cormerants eat game fish, decimate small islands with their feceses and kill small trees. This would also create hunting opportunities and reduce competition with other game birds and loons.

I support the hunt in Ontario as other means to control the numbers have had limited effect (oiling of eggs with kerosene ) Lake Huron is facing growing concerns with reduced numbers of baitfish and declining populations of fish stocks. Lire davantage

I am for a regulated monitored cormorant hunt with the spoiled meat human consumption outcome. The birds will be absorbed back to nature’s environment.

I fish the open waters of Lake Ontario. I see the flocks of birds, I understand the negative impacts. I don’t understand why there should be a hunting season on a bird that won’t be eaten. Lire davantage

After reading your proposal, I am left with many questions. It does not sound like you really know what the consequences will be for the population of Double-crested Cormorants in the long-term if you allow them to be hunted, do you? Lire davantage

I find this action deeply disturbing. I think a better solution would be to work towards limiting climate change and to lower our impact on nature. Increase the fish population, don’t kill one of its predators because human beings are the alpha predator. Shame on you.

I live on the St Lawrence River, I have seen many cormorants feasting every day on the sport fish and their minnows in front of our house. They have distoryed many trees which they nest in and smeared our boats and docks with their shit. Lire davantage

I strony disagree with establishing a hunt from March to December with a daily bag limit of 50 birds. This species has made a comeback after conservation efforts and not enough research or science has been completed to approve this kind of absurd and harmful hunting season.

Rather than a hunting season for the cormorants, why not have a controlled cull, perhaps done by Ontario's Indigenous People, under the auspices of the MNRF?
