I’m writing to say that I strongly oppose Bill 5 and the changes it would bring to the Endangered Species Act. This Bill would make it even harder for species at risk to survive by giving more power to developers and weakening the protections these animals and ecosystems urgently need. Read more

I completely oppose the weakening/destruction of the ESA. With such widespread biodiversity loss due to a plethora of anthropogenic factors, now is the time to strengthen protection for vulnerable species, not reduce it. Please reconsider.

As someone living in Ontario, who was born here and continues to hope to make a life here, it is imperative to protect what makes Ontario unique NOW, while we have the chance. Ecological diversity should never be put after monetary prosperity, because there will always be regrets in the end. Read more

The current approach to Endangered Species is required and acts as a conscious step to prevent acts of harm, intended or unintended. Bypassing due diligence and conscious decision making damages our ecosystem which we are part of, not separate from. Read more

I think this is a bad idea and this puts species even more at risk. A “complicated” and “slow” process is necessary to ensure that a company will receive a permit ONLY if there is limited risk to endangered species and critical habitat. Read more

As an Ontario resident, I do not support these changes to the ESA. These proposed changes are money-driven, ill-informed and dangerous for the environment, rural communities and endangered species.

The message is clear: the Ford government wants to have unilateral control over protected species, habitats and ecosystems at risk, so Ford and his cronies can use our ample resources to line their pockets to the detriment of Ontarians and the wildlife that we are so blessed to share our province wi Read more

This is a shameful gutting of hard-won protections of species at risk, and is extremely short-sighted. This is a pursuit of short-term economic gains at the expense of potential extinction of numerous species. Read more

Removing the ability for the government to safeguard biodiversity leaves it unmanaged and easily exploited. This bill will take us back decades, to a time when environmental conservation was an after thought. The bill is authoritarian, undemocractic in nature, and an insult to every Ontarian. Read more

I'm a 16 year old boy who LOVES the environment and my current MPP, Mike Schreiner. I was devastated to hear about Bill 5 and I'm going to fight with Mike in order to protect the Endangered Species Act and keep Ontario green!
