This new Act threatens every aspect of Ontario life, because it gives the Premier and Cabinet the power to declare any part of Ontario a "Special Economic Zone" where no rules, Acts, Regulations, Instruments (such as municipal by-laws) or conditions apply to "designated projects". Read more

I strongly oppose Bill 5 and the proposed changes to Ontario’s Endangered Species Act. These amendments would allow the destruction of critical habitats without requiring relocation, restoration, or accountability from developers, placing species, ecosystems, and communities at serious risk. This is a disastrous removal of process by the provincial government. There are plenty of places for development without resorting to this kind of legislation. Ontario is not a dictatorship, and should not be for sale to whoever can get their hands on a piece of property. Read more

Bill 5 is not the answer to tariffs. Instead, Bill 5 will make the lives of many people more precarious and will contribute to climate catastrophe. Bill 5 will also trample on Indigenous Sovereignties. This bill will only benefit rich people. It will make Ontario more unequal. I opposed Bill 5.

The protected and endangered species of Ontario are already suffering from a lack of protection and support from the majority of their human kin. Taking away the few protections they have will surely decimate the few remaining populations of integral species to these lands. Read more
