We need to stop giving power to people who pretend climate change isn't happening in order to advance their own political and financial interests. We would be well advised to "follow the money" for the duration of Ford's tenure.
I support carbon tax and cap-and-trade legislation. The future of the planet as a suitable habitat for people is the most important issue of our time. The government is headed in precisely the wrong direction.
The provincial government is acting in a completely irresponsible way in cancelling the carbon emissions cap-and-trade program. This program put a price on carbon, which is a critical step in reducing our greenhouse gas emissions and slowing down the worst effects of climate change.

Bill 4, Cap and Trade Cancellation Act 2018 should be withdrawn.
In this age of climate change and species extinctions and endangerment due to the harm we are causing, cancelling this program without a better program to replace it is absolutely wrong.

The attempted commencement of this repealing Act disheartens and embarrasses me. For a moment in time Ontario was looked at as a leader and as a jurisdiction from which others could take inspiration on the climate change front. With the proposal of this Act it is clear that those days are over.

I particularly object to the timing of this bill. Cancelling participation in the cap and trade program should not be done until the Progressive Conservative have in place a viable alternative plan to reduce Ontario’s greenhouse emissions.

Ford's decision to opt out of the Cap & Trade program (CTP) was in my view short-sighted and ill-advised. By all accounts this program was successful in generating significant revenue that was used to support initiatives to reduce the carbon footprint of individuals, industry and businesses.
