Instead, of putting an 80% affordability cap, and a maximum time in "affordable housing" to 25 years the provincial government should be promising to add 100,000 affordable housing units per year and rent freezes that tie rent increases to inflation. Read more

I appreciate the interest in a coordinated approach to Inclusionary zoning across the province. Unfortunately, the caps proposed for Inclusionary Zoning limit the extent by which municipalities can ensure affordable housing is created, in some cases lower than already implemented or planned. Shelter is a basic human need. The right to housing should be fundamental. In Ontario it is not. The only real housing crisis is the accelerating loss of affordable housing that is forcing low income families to choose between food and rent. Read more
