I am strongly opposed to the changes being put forward to the water taking activities governed by the Ontario Water Resources Act. The public must be allowed to comment on individual water taking projects as any water taking will affect the neighbouring properties and wetlands. Read more

Conservation authorities have to be THE stakeholder in consideration and issuing permits for water takings on sites and need to be site specific. Public consultation should always be included in these applications.

Ontario is proposing to make residential foundation drainage systems exempt from requiring a permit-to-take-water for water, taking up to 379,000 litres of water per day. Currently, it is 50,000 litres per day, removing a permit requirement of up to 379,000 litres per day. Read more

We strongly object to any proposal which would bypass a thorough independent study to assess the removal of water from aggregate sites. The Conservation Authorities should have full input to decisions made. Read more

It is proposed to remove the current volumetric water taking limit of 400,000 litres of ground water per day to dewater a construction site and allow someone to self-register on the Environmental Activity and Sector Registry (EASR) for the taking of any quantity of ground water. Read more
