I am writing today out of concerns regarding the proposed Bill 5. Removing protections for species at risk, and removing the rights of aboriginal peoples to determine how their land and resources are used are two aspects of the Bill that are alarming to me.

The proposal is a fig leaf for bulldozing protections to the environment that have been hard fought for and carefully designed over the years. It exemplifies the attitude from the current provincial government that they can use the excuse of streamlining approval processes to benefit cronies.
As a 30 year old person, I am constantly disappointed by the governments priorities. It’s so clear that infrastructure, transportation and housing come first, even at the cost of protecting our environment, our animals and green spaces.

I strongly oppose changes to our endangered species legislation. No one elected this government to kill off endangered species for no economic benefit. There has been no analysis presented that demonstrates that removing protections of wildlife will result in a stronger province or economy.

This bill gives up on the future of Ontario. We should advance our economy and add housing *and* protect our quality of life by doubling down on renewable energy and conservation with our investments. Why have we given up on our ability to do all these things?

I vote NO. I want stronger protections for all animals, especially endangered species. I oppose shortcuts for corporations and industries, especially without public knowledge and opinions. I don’t approve of Doug ford or his choices to benefit economically of the backs of animals.
