This is a terrible move to appease big development companies in Ontario. Once we lose the species and their habitats, they are gone for good. These regulations are put into place to stop big business from destroying our lands, we need to keep them and strengthen them.

The whole point of this permitting process is to evaluate impact, and was originally designed/implemented by those with knowledge and experience on how to actively protect critical/endangered/at risk habitats and species.

I think that this proposal is sending us in the opposite direction that we need to go. "Under the current Endangered Species Act, 2007 (ESA) program, the process to obtain a permit is slow and complex." Perhaps it should be complex and thorough to ensure that our environment is protected.

I strongly oppose Bill 5. Environmental protection and the conservation of endangered species is a priority for me as an Ontarian and this bill undermines them. It is not okay to expand industry at the expense of our land, ecosystems, and biodiversity.
These changes put already high-risk species and their habitats even more at risk. Instead of moving towards a future where wildlife and nature are protected, we are literally paving the way for extinction.
The ESA is an essential protection for Ontario’s natural environment. The proposed changes would put species at further risk of endangerment, extirpation, or even extinction.

I strongly oppose Bill 5. I want stronger protection for our environment and less shortcuts for industries trying to undermine their environmental responsibilities! I strongly oppose overriding the law in special economic zones!
A registration based process will end up only destroying species and habitat. The changes also reduce the amount of habitat drastically from "an area on which an organism depends" to a dwelling place to the exclusion of territory, which would also destroy species.

As an Ontario resident I am opposed to Bill 5 which basically guts the Endangered Species Act. We need our wildlife here in Ontario to be protected, like our carnivores, reptiles , turtles, beavers, porcupines, deer, moose, & birds. I value the wild birds in Ontario as part of where we live.
