I reject this proposal. There’s far too many high risks to cause irreparable damage before the government can act. With these changes expect to see a huge influx of lawsuits against the Ontario government for negligence, just like we have seen this backfire in other jurisdictions (the US). Read more

These proposed changes are absolutely unacceptable. While there could be improvements to the ESA in several ways, most importantly the investment in more government staff to process permit applications - the changes proposed are an enormous step backwards and should not be allowed to proceed. As an Ontario resident I am fully against these changes to the endangered species act. Species need a full range of habitat protection. We need to protect where species live, eat, sleep, nest. We need to protect the full Rand of what is necessary to actually protect them! Read more

While progress is important, now is not the time to make it easier to destroy the natural environment. It is already threatened and we are at the tipping point as far as biodiversity is concerned. Read more

I am writing to express my opposition to Bill 5, specifically to the amendments to the Endangered Species Act. In my opinion, economic development should never not come at the expense of putting our environment at peril and disowning our commitment to reconciliation. Read more

I am saddened to learn of the proposed changes to the Conservation guidelines which could impact the health of Ontario's bird population. After seeing a rebound in many birds' overall population (i.e. the bald eagle) it seems counterintuitive to do so. Read more

This Bill is a death sentence for our environment. We have lost so many species already and the thought of losing more is truly devastating. This Bill only serves one group of people and ignores the rights and needs of the rest of the people. Read more

I vehemently oppose this and ask that these proposed changes not be allowed to proceed. This will destroy the food resource ecosystem for endangered animals and further put their specie's existence at risk. This space belongs to the animals and to our children, not to corporate greed. Read more

I oppose bill 5. Frankly it’s a disgrace that this is suggested. Industry must be accountable to environmental laws, indigenous oversight & consultation, & public community interests long term. We must protect endangered species act. No the bill 5 Read more

This is an absolutely horrible idea. This act is in place for a reason. It is here to protect our forests and ecosystems. We don’t need to live in asphalt and kill all the other species that live there.

The Endangered Species Act needs to keep the wording that defines habitat properly, i.e. ‘an area on which the species depends, directly or indirectly, to carry on its life processes, including life processes such as reproduction, rearing, hibernation, migration or feeding ‘. Read more

I strongly oppose Bill 5: the Protect Ontario by Unleashing Our Economy Act and its deeply concerning proposals, including the weakening of Ontario’s endangered species protection and the creation of Special Economic Zones. Read more

The proposed changes to the endangered species act are contradictory to the purpose of the act itself. Framing the goal of making it easier for developers and economic growth, implying the protective measures that are currently in place are causing harm to developers - it is laughable. Read more

The environmental permitting process exists for good reason: to keep developers and other bad actors accountable for their actions. Removing this step from the development process, even to build more homes, can only result in abuse of our natural ecosystems in Ontario. Read more
