I adamantly oppose Bill 5, the Protect Ontario by Unleashing Our Economy Act. This legislation seriously threatens Ontario’s natural heritage, democratic processes, and Indigenous rights. Unfortunately, the bill effectively eliminates endangered species legislation in Ontario. Read more

I do not support the changes to the ESA. The proposal will effectively remove protection to not only SAR species but also their critical habitats. The registry removes any government oversight leading to what I'm assuming to be more of a compliance based approach. Read more

This a giant step back in protecting our lands and our wildlife. Development should not come at a cost to the environment and we should do everything to protect our green spaces. I urge the Ontario government to withdraw Bill-5. Read more

I am opposed to the passage of Bill 5 as I feel it gives too much power to government, developers and corporations, while removing safeguards which are there to protect the public. It was rushed through without sufficient public education, input and debate.

Some processes are slow for a reason. I do not support these changes because it threatens our ability to take care in protecting at-risk species, indigenous rights, and our delicate climate.

This change in Species-at-Risk (SAR) legislation is extremely damaging. It will allow developers to rush through environmental assessments and destroy SAR habitat in the blink of an eye, without needing the proper permits or approvals. Especially damaging is the change in habitat definition. Read more

Under absolutely NO circumstances should the government be able to remove an endangered species. There is a committee of independent/non-political members who base decisions on science and evidence. Read more
