I support the elimination or significant reduction of minimum lot size regulations. As mentioned in the policy review, Tokyo, Japan, allows all types of build forms of housing. This encourages the market to provide a variety of homes to the public. Read more

I fully support eliminating minimum lot sizes on fully serviced lots. It would allow for smaller housing forms that can accommodate families. It could help bring land costs down by getting more houses on what otherwise would be a larger single family home. Read more

For considerations about minimum lot size, Staff note that the minimum lot area for a one-unit detached dwelling is currently as low as 340 square metres, which is relatively small when compared to the range of sizes identified by the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing (MMAH). Read more

While removing minimum lot sizes, could potentially increase population density, reduce urban sprawl, improve housing affordability, and reduce municipality's ongoing servicing costs per unit, there are still limitations to how small a lot can get. Read more
