Please don’t merge our conservation authorities. At a critical time when our climate is in crisis we need feet on the ground, in our communities to ensure that everything is being done to protect our wetlands and green spaces and to ensure that flood mitigation plans are in place. Read more

I oppose Bill 68 and the amalgamation of the Conservation Autorities because it will weaken local oversight, reduce hands-on environmental knowledge, and move decisions away from the communities most affected by flooding, habitat loss, and development. Read more

This is a needless proposal. Each conservation area deals with the specifics of their own area. Consolidation will not improve anything; it will cause more areas to be neglected as the governing body will have too many competing priorities. This will weaken environmental protections. Read more

Consolidation of these authorities is a plan that will irreparably damage Ontario's conservation efforts. By having unique authorities in smaller regions we ensure that local efforts are focused in a region close to their home and hearts. Read more

Given the issues seen with the ongoing consolidation of health units in Ontario, regarding amount of time and expense involved in the mergers, disruption of services, seeming lack of synergies, further consolidations of local, mostly rural, services don’t seem like a good idea at present.
