We finalized the amended and restated Operating Agreement between the Minister of the Environment, Conservation and Parks and the Resource Productivity and Recovery Authority. The amendments will help ensure transparent and effective oversight for Ontario’s producer responsibility model and will address necessary administrative changes.

As committed to in our Made-in-Ontario Environment Plan, the MECP is proposing an amendment to its Statement of Environmental Values (SEV) in order to reflect changes in its mandate, to fulfill a commitment in the Made-in-Ontario Environment Plan with the addition of a climate change section, and to add a five-year review period.
We have updated our compliance policy to provide greater transparency on how the ministry responds to environmental incidents, reduce burden on the regulated community and enhance the ministry’s ability to swiftly address incidents that pose a higher risk to the natural environment or human health.

On January 9, 2017 the ministry proposed a Transitional Operating Agreement (TOA) between the Minister of the Environment and Climate Change and the Resource Productivity and Recovery Authority, under the Resource Recovery and Circular Economy Act, 2016. After considering input received, a decision was made to finalize the TOA.
We have made York1 Environmental Waste Solutions Ltd.’s proposal to resume landfill operations and expand on-site waste handling, processing and transfer operations at the property, formerly known as the Dresden Tile Yard, in Chatham-Kent, subject to a comprehensive environmental assessment under Part II.3 of the Environmental Assessment Act.

Ontario is taking action to reduce the amount of food and organic waste going to landfills. We are proposing amendments to the Food and Organic Waste Policy Statement that would help harmonize materials accepted into green bins and other collection systems.
We have updated the Guideline for Implementing Environmental Penalties and Procedure for the Calculation of the Monetary Benefit Component of Environmental Penalties. Updates reflect amendments to O. Reg. 222/07 and O. Reg. 223/07, including those related to contraventions applicable to INEOS Styrolution Canada Ltd.'s plant in Sarnia, Ontario.
A regulation has been made allowing Ellsin Environmental to increase the quantity of tires they can thermally treat daily without carrying out additional EA work, given the extensive EA work already completed and the various other MECP approvals required for the project which ensure environmental protections are maintained.
In an ongoing effort to modernize the Environmental Registry and keep it current, we have identified this as a posting that is no longer pertinent or active.
We have exempted certain Crown projects related to provincial parks and conservation reserves from Environmental Assessment Act requirements and approved the Project Evaluation Policy (formerly referred to as the Environmental Impact Assessment Policy) to move projects forward faster without compromising environmental protection.
