The Minister of Red Tape Reduction introduced the proposed Less Red Tape, Stronger Ontario Act, 2023 to increase Ontario’s competitiveness and build a stronger supply chain, and make government easier to interact with by cutting red tape.

A decision has been made to proceed with amendments to the Mining Act to allow lessees, licencees and owners of mining lands to sell and retain the proceeds from materials extracted for the purposes of testing without the requirement for a mine production closure plan to have first been filed. The Ministry has decided to amend O. Reg. 45/11 to set out the conditions that are required for mining claimholders to sell the end product of a bulk sample and recover associated costs, without first obtaining the Minister’s permission: a “permit by rule” approach. This will allow previous amendments to the Mining Act to come into force.

The province is proposing new legislation that, if passed, would require the expansion of crucial wastewater treatment services for York Region and the construction of a phosphorus reduction facility to remove phosphorus from drainage water that flows into Lake Simcoe. The ministry is seeking comments on the proposed legislation.
We have amended the Resource Recovery and Circular Economy Act, 2016. These changes enable Ontario’s producer responsibility framework to be more responsive to the needs of business and allow government to assess the effectiveness of any future changes to the framework.
