The Greenbelt Statute Law Amendment Act, 2023 that includes Schedule 1 - the Duffins Rouge Agricultural Preserve Act ,2023 (DRAPA, 2023), came into effect on December 6, 2023. DRAPA, 2023 reinstates the legal protections of the easements and covenants applicable to the lands within the Duffins Rouge Agricultural Preserve.
The Minister of Red Tape Reduction introduced the proposed Less Red Tape, Stronger Ontario Act, 2023 to increase Ontario’s competitiveness and build a stronger supply chain, and make government easier to interact with by cutting red tape.

The province is proposing new legislation that, if passed, would require the expansion of crucial wastewater treatment services for York Region and the construction of a phosphorus reduction facility to remove phosphorus from drainage water that flows into Lake Simcoe. The ministry is seeking comments on the proposed legislation.

We have issued a director’s order to Algoma Steel Inc. requiring them to apply for new site-specific standards for air emissions for their Sault Ste. Marie facility by March 31, 2022.
The Planning Act was amended to give the Minister regulation-making authority to address planning timelines in an emergency. On December 3, 2020, we issued an Environmental Compliance Approval (ECA) with Limited Operational Flexibility No. 5420-BKFMGV to Prodigy Gold Inc.'s facility involved in open-pit gold mining and milling, located in Finan Township, approx. 40 km northeast of Wawa, Ontario. This ECA replaces all current ECAs for Air & Noise at this facility
The Director of Exploration has made a decision on the First Mining Gold Inc. exploration permit application PR-20-000110 for early exploration located approximately 62 kilometres NE of Mishkeegogamang First Nation, in the Connell Township, District of Thunder Bay, North West Region.
We introduced a new penalty under Waste Diversion Transition Act to help ensure compliance with the legislation and its regulations. This will help to make sure the environment remains protected during the transition to the new producer responsibility framework.

A new regulation will make tire producers environmentally and financially responsible for recovering resources and reducing waste associated with the tires they supply in Ontario. This will further reduce the amount of tires lost to disposal, benefit our environment and economy, and support our efforts to fight climate change.
Based on feedback received through engagement, we have decided to withdraw the proposal to repeal the Far North Act. We are now proposing to refocus the Act with proposed amendments to provisions that may hinder economic development and enhancing provisions that encourage collaboration with First Nations in the Far North regarding land use planning

We have established the Species Conservation Action Agency to invest in strategic, large-scale, and coordinated actions that will support more positive outcomes for select species at risk. We also created regulations to enable use of the Species at Risk Conservation Fund and expand conditional exemptions for activities with standard approaches.
Newmont Porcupine has submitted a Mine Closure Plan Amendment for filing by the Ministry of Energy, Northern Development and Mines as required under the Mining Act.
