I am a long time resident of Wasaga Beach, 64 years. Regarding the transfer of Nancy Island Historical Site to the Ministry of Tourism. I think this will be productive, supporting the history of the war of 1812 and the sinking of the Nancy. The island is in need of repair to return it to the tourism destination it has been previously. It would be a great addition if the Wasaga Beach Archives could be incorporated into the site.
I have great concerns with Beach Areas one and two being turned over to the town. I know that Premier Ford indicated that this was conditional on the beach remaining for all public use. Who is going to make sure that happens. I already see examples from Beach Area one through 6 where people are already pushing beyond the highwater mark. This was very evident during the last period of high water.
Where are the tourists, who have enjoyed using Beach area's one and two, since Wasaga became a tourist destination in the late 1800's, early 1900's going to park. Will the Provincial Park still operate the parking lots of Beach one and two, or is that all going to be townhouses and condo's. Where will the boat launch in Beach Area one be relocated. That launch is used by locals and tourist on a daily basis. It offers parking for cars and trailers. There is a launch at Nancy Island, you can only launch one boat at a time and limited parking. It is also a blind spot as it is very close to the bridge going over to Nancy Island. Will it still be useable if the Town proceeds with a planned roundabout at that intersection. I do not want Wasaga Beach to become like other beaches along Georgian Bay where property owners say they own to the beach front, sadly I foresee this happening around Beach area one and two. I have walked the beachfront all of my life and would hate to see a point where I would no longer be able to do this.
My other concern is what happens if any part of the Town's plan does not come to fruition. What then happens to the beachfront.
The Provincial Parks have been the Stewards of Wasaga Beach and I feel they should remain in that role.
