Whilst I do believe it is important to support local communities such as that of Wasaga Beach, I do have some concerns as to the proposed changes to the Provincial Park in that area. There is potentially a major issue with destruction of natural habit, particularly regarding the breeding grounds of the endangered Piping Plover. I would thus ask that effects on habitat of native and endangered species be noted and carefully considered in any decisions made regarding development of the Wasaga Beach Provincial Park.
As noted in the Province's own documents, this area is "… one of Ontario’s most unique coastal dune ecosystems. (Ontario Building Destination Wasaga, 'Quick Facts', https://news.ontario.ca/en/release/1005915/ontario-building-destination… ), and the aim of development is to "… restore an important heritage site ... , while continuing to support the area’s natural and cultural heritage. (Proposal Summary, https://ero.ontario.ca/notice/025-0694 ). Such issues must be kept in the forefront of any discussions and given full weight in arriving at decisions regarding development. Endangered species must be protected.
