The issue is whether the Province will support the average/lower-middle class family having the ability to visit Wasaga and nearby beach areas or whether they support the sale leading to those areas becoming affordable only for the wealthier.
Selling these park areas will not increase tourism, but it will change. Portions of the beach will become private to accommodate new condos and upscale restaurants and businesses. Clientele will change.
For decades, Wasaga Beach has been affordable for lower-income families; particularly most who could not afford to buy their own cottages or stay at hotels. The shops and restaurants were typically busy throughout the summer season. Today, most of those shops are already gone. Further redeveloping the area for more condos and hotels will only intensify the privatization and eliminate yet another place for average/lower-middle class families to enjoy in the summer.
Considering the climate change as we've experienced recently, these beaches and parks need to be kept protected, open and free, for everyone.
Develop elsewhere, where land and shorelines are already unaffordable for average families to rent or buy.
