I’m strongly opposed to the proposal to force amalgamation of the Lakehead Regional Conservation Authority with several CAs south and east of Lake Huron/Georgian Bay.
Thunder Bay and surrounding townships have little in common with those areas and this move is therefore unlikely to achieve the efficiencies envisioned. This region has a totally different climate and daily weather events, different terrain, different soil types, different population density, different natural habitats and different ecosystems. Given that the mandate of Conservation Authorities is, in general terms, to manage, protect, and sometimes restore our waterways, woodlands, wetlands, etc., incorporating geographic areas that are vastly different in these respects into a single operating unit makes little sense.
Please carefully weight the bureaucratic convenience of this amalgamation against the very real likelihood of a significant degradation in outcomes by a less effective administration.
