I think the consolidation of Conservation Authorities (CA) into seven would be a complete disaster for the natural health of Ontario. The natural environment is complex and so different in each of the 36 CA presently. They have done a very good job at keeping their local areas protected and operating safely. The staff at the CA know the waterways and local watersheds, subwatersheds and land usages so they may monitor them and also investigate natural problems as a result of industrialization and development in a climate crisis era. Water is a very important resource and we need to protect it for our use and future generations. These CAs have the scientific know-how and work with the local municipalities and towns to keep the natural environment protected. We need the local control and local know how and that loss would be detrimental as this relationship locally would dissappear. The area for 7 CAs would be way to big to manage properly and put the environment in a dire loss of protection and overseeing of its natural works such as flooding, drought, fires, invasive species, pollution etc. The natural system is complicated especially with the climate situation. The Ford Government hasn't thought this out and are using the amalgamation as a tool to take over the power of the land usage as they did with the Greenbelt Scandal. Please do not let them do anymore damage to Ontario. The 36 CAs are working well! Do not touch them as who will be accountable for their demise under a smaller umbrella of environmental care.
