A friend brought this issue to my attention and the first question I have to ask is WHY is this happening? Is this another government cave in to a special interest group (the environmentalists), and if so why is Rondeau being targeted when other Provincial parks are not?

I do not believe the leases at Rondeau Provincial Park should be extended at all in either oprtion given to the lease holders. When the leases end, the cottages should be removed and the land restored to its natural state.

It is my understanding that these cottages were originally leased with the understanding that they were able to be in their family forever. Leaving these to spouse, sibling, child, or whomever the relative might be.

In light of the fact that a new Provincial Parks policy and Rondeau Management Plan was rewritten as recently as 2006, it appears that “ a single policy fits all “ has been implemented.

Parks need to recognize, support and protect not only the ecological values of the park, but the heritage and historical values. The cottages, churches, pavilions, yacht club and stores are all part of Rondeau history and must continue.

I am concerned about the terms of this policy, as I feel it fails to ignore a number of issues. First, it contravenes the MNR multiuse policy which states the following: "Multiple Use Policy is not consistent with a province-wide policy of restricted cottage leases in provincial parks.

First and foremost I am not a lease holder at Rondeau Provincial Park however, the debate now raging over the proposed conditions put forward by the Ontario Provincial Government for lease extension has sparked my curiosity.

Rondeau is only provincial park in Ontario that was created specifically for cottaging...cottages have been past down generation to generation for over 100 years. Cottages belong in Rondeau!
