I fully support the development of more bike lanes in our community. It’s clear from evidence that they play an essential role in reducing overall traffic congestion, improving road safety, and encouraging more sustainable modes of transportation. Lire davantage

Bike lane installations already require an assessment of the road corridor, the use of the road right-of-way, the impact on traffic, and an assessment of whether it is a net good for the municipality. Lire davantage

Bike lanes along with transit investment is what is needed in Southern Ontario going forward. Adding "just one more lane" for vehicles will have 0 impact on traffic, while increasing the danger for cyclists, scooter riders and people in mobility scooters, all of which use bike lanes. I'm writing to express concern about the bill's clause to "enable provincial approval authority for the installation of new bike lanes on municipal roads, where the removal of a vehicle lane is required". Municipalities are by far the best judges of how their roads are used. Lire davantage

Regarding the idea of traffic lane removal in urban centers: you can't "fight" the gridlock by continuing to encourage increased automobile usage. Lire davantage

Hi, this is an evil and despicable proposal. Our planet is dying and our biggest goals should be strengthening transit options that create the least amount of pollution. Public transit in this province needs to be quick, affordable and cheap. And bike lanes serve as a reliable alternative. Lire davantage

The proposal to review, and possibly eliminate, existing bike lanes will do nothing to reduce congestion. It will, in fact, increase congestion, cause higher rates of injuries, and cause the elimination of more greenhouse gases. Lire davantage

This proposal should not go through. Municipalities know their transportation needs better than the province and frankly removing bike lines and replacing them with vehicular traffic will never reduce congestion. Lire davantage

This is a bad policy with no basis in accepted urban planning research. It will make both quality of life in Ontario’s cities and traffic in those cities worse. Furthermore, the provincial government has no authority to dictate this kind of policy to cities.

Bill 212 - Reducing Gridlock, Saving you Time Act, 2024 - Framework for bike lanes that require removal of a traffic lane is a seriously disappointing and disgracefully short sighted proposal on behalf of the provincial government. Lire davantage

I am vehemently against this bill. It is an egregious overstepping of the provincial government, and for a bill that is completely unsupported by scientific evidence. Lire davantage

Bike lanes remove cars from the road by giving travellers an alternative to driving. Building more lanes to solve gridlock is not a realistic solution. Targeting on-street parking, which takes up valuable road space to store a car, is a much more worthwhile use of resources. Lire davantage

Municipalities can best address their own road use needs, including for cycling and motorized vehicles. This is not an area of jurisdiction for the province. The province could focus on improving regional transit and getting people to move en masse rather than in private motorized vehicles. Lire davantage

The legislation requiring provincial approval for new bike lane installations is the exact opposite of the "small government" Doug Ford advocates for. Lire davantage

Can we take a step back and think of everybody’s safety? We need more bike lanes for many reasons, it’s safer, allows people to not use their car to go to work, which means less cars and at the end, we can reduce gridlock by giving people the option! Lire davantage

1. 401 highway is already incredibly unsafe with people driving rash, significantly over speed limits, and not following laws of the road. There is not one day when there isn't an accident. This is due to unsafe driving and our reliance on driving for commute. Lire davantage
