More bike lanes more mass transit fewer cars fewer highways. This is not hard. The more options you give people to get around, the less traffic there will be.

I am commenting on the proposed legislation to stop new bike lanes and potentially remove existing lanes in Toronto and other cities. Data does not support the arguments being made by the government about gridlock, emergency vehicle delays or drops in consumer spending along bike corridors. Lire davantage

This is a backwards looking policy. As a Downtown Toronto taxpayer who both cycles and drives I know how much time I can save cycling to run errands or attend meetings while feeling much safer in bike lanes. Lire davantage

Bike lanes are more important than having additional lanes for cars. The road network in Toronto and other cities in Ontario is dense and complete, but the bike network is sparse and disconnected. Lire davantage

I am writing to express my opposition to the proposed "Reducing Gridlock, Saving You Time Act, 2024" and specifically the provision that requires the removal of a traffic lane to install bike lanes. Lire davantage

As a driver, cyclist and pedestrian I find it ludicrous and wasteful that this government would remove a valuable traffic lane for cyclists, increase gridlock for everyone, and endanger pedestrians and cyclists Lire davantage

As someone who loves beers in corner stores, I understand that traffic is slow and that there is a need to ease congestion. But this is a terrible idea. If bike lanes are removed, you get maybe 10% extra space for 80% extra traffic (since all the bikers will now drive). Lire davantage

You will kill people. You will make traffic worse. You will cause more noise and carbon pollution. And you will undermine local democracy.

I wholeheartedly disagree with the implementation of this bill. Adding the need for provincial approval is a clear roadblock to building very needed bike infrastructure. Lire davantage

This seems like a policy that is much more about politicking than actually improving congestion. Induced demand (and concrete studies from many major cities) show that adding more vehicle lanes and/or more highways does nothing to improve congestion in the long-term. Lire davantage

This plan to impede bicycle lane development with a mislabelled bill is either shortsighted at best, or a result of corruption at worst.

Municipalities are best suited to determine whether and where bike lanes should be situated. Apart from this jurisdictional concern, the governments priorities in getting drivers home faster appears not to consider the safety of others who choose to cycle or walk or must cycle or walk. 1) Bike lanes have been shown in academic studies to reduce congestion, not increase it. 2) Bike lanes, as part of Complete Streets traffic calming, are an important part of increasing safety and comfort for both pedestrians and cyclists. Lire davantage

If there are less bike lanes, that is more time I will spend in lanes designated for automobiles, and the slower those lanes will move.

Please do not get rid of our bike lanes. Toronto drivers are so hostile to cyclists and bike lanes are the only thing keeping us mildly safe. We actually need more bike lanes, not fewer.

I commute to and from my finance job at a big bank on Bay Street by bike because the TTC is unreliable and takes twice as long. I commute to and from work by bike throughout the winter as well. My time is valuable. Removing safe bike lanes will negatively impact my commute. Lire davantage

I live in Durham Region and I do not support this bill. All evidence points to one solution to gridlock: viable alternative transportation methods. A mix of good public transit and cycling options will mean fewer people will drive. Lire davantage

Very disappointed that first the provincial government feels it should control what is a municipal issue. We must have alternatives to get around in cities and keep people safe as well. The idea of paying to rip out already established bike lanes is ludicrous. Lire davantage

I’m sympathetic to the anti-bike lane folks.. I commute along the bike lane paths on bloor. Every day. But when you watch traffic, it’s clear that they’re not causing congestion. There are very real issues causing congestion and I just don’t think the bike lanes are them. Lire davantage

It is abundantly clear when looking at actual data that reducing the number of cars is the only solution to traffic. Lire davantage
