Sacrificing nature and Indigenous rights isn’t the way to address Ontarians’ rising grocery bills, solve the trade war with the US or transition to a safe and renewable future. Lire davantage

The 700 members of the Kingston Field Naturalists do not support the proposed changes to the Endangered Species Act or its replacement by a Species Conservation Act. Our views are set out in a letter to Minister McCarthy sent separately. Lire davantage

I am concerned that the proposed new act removes important requirements for recovery strategies, management plans, and government response statements, while also narrowing the definition of habitat. Lire davantage

I am writing to strongly oppose Bill 5: the Protect Ontario by Unleashing Our Economy Act and its dangerous proposals, including the creation of Special Economic Zones, the weakening of Ontario’s endangered species protections, and the exemption of the Eagle’s Nest mine from an environmental review. This is abhorrent. Protecting threatened species isnt a roadblock - it’s an obligation. Biodiversity and wilderness is what makes Canada such an appealing country from a tourism perspective. Lire davantage

I hate this, don't take away the endangered species act!!! The environment is all we have! This would be devastating for all the animals living in Ontario, whatever the gains of this bill is isn't worth their lives!

It is essential that the Endangered Species Act be maintained and not watered down. It should be made more efficient in terms of it should be more straightforward to get a species and its habitat listed. Bill 5 takes the opposite approach and should be withdrawn.

The decision to remove barriers to allow a smoother approval process for development and land projects is valid as there is a need for more infrastructure to support our growing towns and communities. Lire davantage

There are plenty of areas in Ontario, begging for development, where species at risk are not impacted. We can increase density in areas that are already built-up rather than expanding into sensitive territories. Lire davantage

I oppose Bill 5. I want strong environmental protections. I oppose short cuts for industry. I want thorough consultation with First Nation communities for industry projects in their traditional territories, and approval only if they consent. Lire davantage

Habitat destruction is the number one cause of wildlife extinction and endangerment. Stronger habitat protections are needed to ensure our society does not kill off the current 230+ endangered species in Ontario, or create new threatened species. Lire davantage

Please remember that humans share this planet with other species, we are only one life form among many that live in Ontario. We have a responsibility to not only respond to the problems of today, but our decisions today decide if future generations will have a planet that will support life. Lire davantage

While I agree that we need faster processes to allow Ontario to ease the housing shortage, i do not agree that the government should have the ability to determine what is and is not a threatened species of plant, animal or fish. Lire davantage

The very idea of this change to the Species Act is very clearly a nakedly-apparent attempt to gut Ontario's environmental legislation, to seize control of public lands, and put more money into the bloated, overflowing pockets of Ford and his cronies. Lire davantage

There is absolutely no discussion of enforcement in the proposal. This makes it seem like any claims that activities would "still need to follow established requirements" (which would now be dictated case by case, it seems? Lire davantage

The introduction of bill 5 will be have a terrible impact on species and nature. We shouldn’t be greedy and put them last just so it’s more convenient for us and we can make more money

This is messed up. We can build and be smart about how we are using nature, but the Ontario government seems dead set on being lazy.

Protecting our conservation lands isn’t just about preserving scenery—it’s about safeguarding the ecosystems, wildlife, and natural balance we all depend on. Every species plays a role in our planet’s health. Once they’re gone, there’s no replacing them. Lire davantage

As a grassroots, environmental activist and Indigenous ally, I strongly oppose this legislation and I'm appalled that a Government of Ontario, supposedly acting in the best interests of its constituents, would suggest that Bill 5 is the best way to protect Ontario’s economy. Lire davantage
