As a lifelong resident of Ontario, I find this act shameful. I understand the need for affordable housing and improved infrastructure as someone who lives in in the GTA and barely makes enough to cover living expenses. But this act is the completely wrong way to go about mitigating these problems. Lire davantage

I’m writing to discuss the potential passing of Bill 5 into law. This legislation is alarming and holds the potential to establish a marketplace for corruption in our province. It leaves me wondering two important questions: How, and by what criteria, will exemptions be established? Lire davantage

The exemption for property in the proposed Protect Ontario by Unleashing our Economy Act, 2025, feels too broad, and feels as though it could be ripe for potential abuse, potentially allowing a less scrupulous government to simply bypass archaeological assessments entirely, and run the risk of causi Lire davantage

Due to colonization, so much has been lost in the way of historical knowledge of Indigenous peoples across Ontario. First Nations already often struggle to consult on heritage concerns; reducing the window is the opposite approach to take on this matter. Lire davantage

This approach is very alarming to me. It seems like there is not clarity around how the exemptions will apply. The point of archaeology is to investigate below ground where you may not know the answer. It doesn't make sense to base exemptions on what we already know. Things will get missed. Lire davantage

I am very concerned that these changes will violate the Treaty rights of First Nations, and as such, I am opposed to these changes being made. From my understanding, these changes will allow the province and developers to sidestep Archaeological Requirements. This is completely unacceptable. Lire davantage

While the development of Ontario is a critical objective, disregarding our shared history, and the history of the indigenous peoples is neither virtuous nor necessary.

This is bulldozing through protections that are there for a reason just for you to make more money for yourselves and your friends. This is bad for the environment, bad for indigenous and all the people of Ontario who aren't developers (most of us). Don't do it. Lire davantage

Well firstly, this bill is entirely irrelevant if the Special Economic Zones Act, 2025 passes as currently written. The Minister and Lieutenant Governor in Council can implement the changes here or ignore the changes here as they please. Lire davantage
