This is an outrageous and egregious bill, set to line the pockets of Doug Ford's developer cronies at the direct cost of the things that make Ontario great. Our biodiversity, our world-quality standards, the archaeological significance of our land, all of these are threatened by this bill. Lire davantage

This is a misuse of the office of the Premier of Ontario. Instead of fast tracking projects that are benefiting a small minority perhaps take the time to properly assess the environment and at the same time allow for some learning of the past that is irreplaceable. Lire davantage

This legislation is a disgrace to heritage and indigenous culture. Once again allowing construction firms and builders to take precedence over culture and history. Lire davantage

Bill 5 not only will deprive me of my personal livelihood as a cultural resource management archaeologist, but it also directly mirrors Trump’s policy of ‘Dig Baby Dig’. Lire davantage

Archaeology is an important tool to investigate the past and help us in the future. Eliminating the mandate for projects would destroy important cultural sites and this information and history would be lost forever. Archaeological materials are significant for past, present, and future peoples. Lire davantage

I do not support the proposed legislative changes. Archeological assessment, indigenous involvement, and community engagement are important and essential. No form of development should be exempt.

Bills like this are only introduced to support developers looking to get wealthier. Environmental and Archaeological assessments protect and provide accountability to those investing and developing in Ontario. Lire davantage

This is the most despicable bill proposal I’ve seen in my lifetime. Archaeologists have been working for decades now to decolonize the practice and we are nowhere close. This is a huge step backwards from our goal. Lire davantage

The government can now exempt lands from heritage protections to prioritize housing or infrastructure. That means sacred or significant Indigenous sites can legally be bulldozed and communities have no legal way to stop it or seek justice. Lire davantage

These policies give power to the LG to hand wave archaeological requirements away for quick development, which not only threatens Ontario heritage and Indigenous rights and sovereignty, but thousands of workers whose livelihood depend on archaeological consultation. Lire davantage

Such unilateral and unchecked power for a governing authority is unacceptable. The treaty rights of First Nations peoples deserves to be upheld and respected. This outright disregard for Ontario heritage is condemnable.

Archaeology is not red tape. Environmental assessments are not red tape. Please do not remove the universal protections. Please do not follow Trump's lead. Working together, we can move forward with construction WHILE protecting our non- renewable resources, such as heritage. Lire davantage

Bill 5 will undo alot of the work that archeologists have done to create stronger relationships with our Indigenous communties. Even though the bill states that burial sites and cemeteries will be protected we don't know where these resting places are until we do an assessment. Lire davantage
