WHY would Doug Ford create this bill? To scrap the Endangered Species Act? To potentially trample Indigenous rights? WE need to preserve nature. Doug Ford needs to strengthen endangered species so wildlife can flourish. ENOUGH already. RESPECT Indegenous rights. Read more

This is a terrible and wrong way to approach conservation. Not only will this cause immense damage to the environment but it will put other species - flora and fauna - at great risk. Read more

As a grassroots, environmental activist and Indigenous ally, I strongly oppose this legislation and I'm appalled that a Government of Ontario, supposedly acting in the best interests of its constituents, would suggest that Bill 5 is the best way to protect Ontario’s economy. Read more

This is not something that we should be cutting corners on. The impact to environment and species should be the one of the most important considerations when developments are being proposed. We can not undo the damages once they have occurred. Read more

This is the absolute most soulless thing one can do to animals that do not have a voice to fight back and will soon not have a safe place to live. Do not do this. Terrible senseless selfish act. Read more

I do not support this proposed legislation. It uses the guise of speeding up development to remove protections while pretending there are no downsides and this is just about uncertainty. Read more

I understand that the government of Ontario must take steps to manage the general economy, a housing crisis, the transportation needs of Ontarians and more, however it appears as though Bill 5 was written by/for Housing Developers and Extractive Industry Lobbyists with an outdated 19th century minds Read more

The greenbelt has been a staple of Ontario's culture since it's establishment. Why ruin our natural spaces? The only people who benefit from it's destruction are the ones that won't feel it's loss. No Developer will care about the harmful ecological and social impacts felt from this loss. Read more

I am an environmental assessment professional and ecologist with extensive private sector and Ontario government experience. The proposed changes continue down the path of degradation of the once admirable, however brief, environmental regulatory framework that existed in Ontario. Read more

There is a reason why there is an endangered species act in place. Ecosystem balance is so important because when a protected species becomes extinct it causes a chain reaction and it doesn’t just eliminate the one species. Read more

I strongly oppose this proposal. It will gut Ontario's Endangered Species Act and cause irreperable damage to our environment at a time when we should be focusing on protecting it, not tearing it down to build more destructive highways. Absolutely not.

The main two things that stand out to me on this proposal is that it’s the governments final say in what species are added or removed to the endangered species act. Which is null and voids any protections in the first place. Read more

I do not support these changes. These proposed changes are not rooted in science and place economics ahead of our environment. Any changes to environmental legislation should be rooted in science and should involve consultation with key stakeholders and Indigenous Communities.
