As a terrestrial ecologist, I know that these species are found in a variety of habitats, and many species at risk have foraging, nesting, social and movement habitats that are not within the same area, and may not be where these species are found in that moment.

As a grassroots, environmental activist and Indigenous ally, I strongly oppose this legislation and I'm appalled that a Government of Ontario, supposedly acting in the best interests of its constituents, would suggest that Bill 5 is the best way to protect Ontario’s economy.

We cannot afford to turn a blind eye to our ecosystems. They are not the way forward to a prosperous future for all. Do not remove the standards as they are. This is not the answer.
This is outrageous and irresponsible. In an era of heightened extinctions, of constant and proven evidence of global warming and knowing the effects of habitat loss, we should be doing what ever we can to protect lands that are important to native and migratory populations.

Significant reductions to the ESA act might provide shirt term gains, but in 2025 we know that turning back environmental damage and losses are nearly impossible. Ensuring that we protect species and land must be given an equal lens to economic development.
