Why would you ever need to get rid of environmental assessments. This bill is preposterous and scary. If you care at all about the environment, animals, birds, habitats, our entire food supply, the next generation, you would not let this bill or anything it proposes pass. Read more

My family and I have major concerns over this proposal. We are concerned for the well being of our small town. The proximity of this landfill to homes and schools is much too close. One would think, this alone would stop the threat of a landfill from coming to our town, but here we are. Read more

Ontario’s planning and environmental laws are built on the principle of local engagement and shared governance. By stripping away the Environmental Assessment requirement, the province is overriding our community’s right to assess, respond to, and protect itself from a high-risk project. Read more

I was born and raised in Dresden, and after moving away for school, looking for a career and starting a family, I CHOSE to move back to my hometown to raise my family. This town has given me a wonderful childhood, filled with sports, activities, family, and an immeasurable sense of community. Read more

Why is Chatham-Kent being asked to absorb a second large-scale landfill, while dozens of Ontario municipalities have none? This is not just a local planning issue—it’s a question of fairness and responsible, province-wide waste management. Read more

Last fall, Premier Doug Ford and our local MPP Steve Pinsonneault assured the people of Chatham-Kent that the Municipality would have the final say on whether the Dresden dump expansion would move forward. That promise gave our residents a sense of reassurance that local voices would matter. Read more

An EA is essential in this case to understand how the project aligns—or conflicts—with Ontario’s climate goals. A facility processing up to 6,000 tonnes of construction and demolition waste per day, and receiving up to 700 truckloads daily, will significantly increase emissions. Read more

Approving a massive landfill expansion without an EA would set a dangerous precedent. If the government allows this to happen by quietly revoking regulations in omnibus legislation, it opens the door for other dormant or decommissioned sites across Ontario to be revived without proper oversight. Dresden is a rural town with strong agricultural roots and growing interest in small-town living. The presence of a massive landfill and recycling facility could negatively impact land values, deter investment, and harm farm operations. Read more
