I oppose Bill 5! I wish to express my grave concerns with Protect Ontario by unleashing our Economy Act (Bill 5) and its destructive impact on our environment and our democracy. I am deeply troubled by the immediate, mid, and long-term impact of Bill 5 on Ontario's environment. Read more

We are very concerned about the proposed investigating procedures. For the longest time, the ministry has been thought to have severe preferential treatment for specific consultants. This is easily detected by looking at reports. Read more

The proposed granting of powers of investigation to MCM under the Heritage Act is an invitation to amplify the record of flagrant abuse of power with which this ministry has been involved throughout its history. Read more

I do not support the proposed changes that include exempting housing and highway infrastructure projects from archaeological assessments. The proposed changes to this Act would reduce indigenous input to construction projects and potentially destroy artifacts of historical interest and value.

As a student/emerging professional in the heritage field, this bill's approach to regulation and protection is very concerning. While development is an important goal in our province, and indeed across Canada, archaeology and heritage are also important pursuits. Read more

The language "other infrastructure or such other priorities as may be prescribed." included in the proposal is far too overpowered owing to being far too wide open to interpretation allowing essentially any reason the government (via the Lt.Gov.) may desire, and no government at all should have such Read more

Unleashing our economic success DOES NOT require diminished heritage or environmental protections. For archaeology specifically, it required the FORD GOVERNMENT to adequately support the archaeology staff at the MCM. Read more

I work in the archaeology industry, and we are dedicated to protecting Indigenous cultural heritage as one of our primary missions. The proposed language around potential exemptions for archaeological assessments is both confusing and alarming. Read more

This government has proven that they need supervision. They've consistently chosen to bolster private companies over the people of Ontario. I'm sick of it. The people of Ontario deserve better. Bill 5 should be withdrawn in its entirety.

The proposed amendments concerns me, especially when it comes to the potential exemption of building developments from the requirement of archaeological investigation. As stated in the amendment, certain locations will not be considered for exemption, such as those with great archaeological merit. Read more

This legislation will have incredible knock-on effects. I work in Archaeology in Ontario. Every year I spend tens, if not hundreds of thousands of dollars at local businesses across this province. Read more

I do not agree that there should be exemptions. Also, inspection powers should remain limited to those individuals who hold an archaeological licence under the OHA; no other people should be assigned to conduct archaeological inspections.
