I’m writing to express my concerns about Bill 5 and Ontario Heritage Act, Schedule 7 (Protect Ontario by Unleashing our Economy Act, 2025). As an archaeologist in this province for the last 12 years, I firmly disagree with the underlying notion of this Bill 5 that archaeological requirements are red tape. Good archaeology does not have to cause delays and should be viewed as an asset to any project. Read more

The conscious erosion of environmental and cultural protections to facilitate quicker construction timelines is a page taken directly from the Donald Trump School of Government. These protections are not red tape, as they are being characterized. Read more

I live in a community with many historical buildings, some of which have been illegally demolished by developers in the past years. These changes appear to make it easier for developers to bulldoze historical buildings, which I am not okay with. Read more

I oppose the changes to Bill 5 Schedule 7. I urge you to please not pass these changes as this is a massive problem from a cultural, emotional and indigenous perspective. Additionally, this will put hardworking individuals out of work.

STOP BILL 5. Premier Ford’s Bill 5 would give him and his Cabinet Trump-like powers. It would allow any person or business that he and his Cabinet choose to ignore any and every provincial or municipal law. Read more
