Section 35(1.1) proposed to the Building Code Act, 1992, prevents municipalities from enforcing and passing bylaws related to construction or demolition. This could impact local green-building standards which are integral to long term viability for development projects.

The Region of Waterloo has reviewed the legislative and regulatory changes proposed by Bill 17 (Protect Ontario By Building Faster and Smarter Act) and continues to support the Province of Ontario in its efforts to make it easier and faster to build new homes and infrastructure.

I do NOT support Bill 17. It will remove all bird friendly regulations on buildings which are proved to stop collisions by the millions. It should NOT become law!
Section 2 of the Planning Act requires Municipalities, to have regard for matters of Provincial interest in carrying out their responsibilities under the Planning Act.
