As you would probably know I am an avid falconer. I’m hoping that you can help me by taking a minute or two to provide a positive comment to a proposal posted by the Ministry of Natural Resources that would expand access of wild raptors to qualified falconers only - one raptor per year. Read more

The changes proposed here will result in the success of both raptors and falconers in Ontario. Falconry is an integral part of wild bird of prey conservation. The welfare of the animals is of the upmost importance to falconers. Read more

I would like to state my support for proposal ero# 019-1806 regarding the expansion of the live capture of wild raptors. I think it is an excellent proposal, well considered and modest in its expansion. Read more

I believe that including Goshawks as a draw for wild take in Ontario is an excellent idea. In addition, the ability to capture one wild raptor per year including Cooper’s hawk, Sharp-shinned hawk, Red-tailed hawk, and Merlin is a much needed change. Read more

Falconry is probably the most nature sensitive outdoor sport. Falconers utilize the natural resource in the most balanced manner. They borrow a young bird, usually for just a few months, from the natural stock and return it in as good or better shape than it started. Read more

I would like to enthusiastically support this proposal. Juvenile birds of prey have a high mortality rate (up to 70%), and capture by falconers virtually assures first-year survival of young hawks and falcons. Read more

I wholeheartedly support the wild take amendments. I believe the proposed 5 goshawk limits is more than restrictive enough to prevent a decline in the wild population and that if a trained bird is released later in its life it will be a boon to the population. Read more

I see no issue with this proposal. It may lead to a better survival chance of a young bird and help preserve them. Falconry is an honourable sport/hobby, carefully regulated by trained people who are very environmentally aware and have the bird's best interest at heart at all times.

I grew up in a household with my Dad as an avid falconer, and he continues to be to this day. I witnessed first hand how important conservation, the treatment of the environment and animals is to falconers. Read more

Using wild birds for falconry is a win-win situation. The birds, that under normal circumstances have a high chance of dying during their first year, are taken care of and taught to hunt in situations they may not normally perfect on their own. Read more
