I am vehemently opposed to this given the health risks to our community. These risks are unacceptable. The Algoma district had an overall cancer incidence of tel:608/100000 in 2020 (the most current data from Cancercare Ontario); provincial average is tel:413/100000. Read more

Algoma Steel has been surpassing limits on four chemicals: benzene, benzo(a)pyrene, sulfur dioxide and particulate matter. Exceeding benzene levels is unacceptable, there's no safe level and that has been linked to hotspots for acute myeloid leukemia in the Sault Ste. Marie area. Read more

The pollution from the Algoma Steel has been obvious my whole life. Growing up in the east end, we were continually wiping the black film off of our outdoor furniture. I was relieved, as an adult, to have settled and raised my children north of the city in greater Batchewana. Read more
