I oppose bill 5. In a time where there needs to be greater environmental protections, Bill 5 will strip protections we have in place that have directly helped protect multiple endangered species. Bill 5 is a short cut and a cop out and it is fundamentally un-Canadian.

Our endangered species and eco system is crucial to our survival. All experts agree with this. This is far too much power to be abused by our government and is potentially dangerous to endangered species and all of us as a consequence.
I opose bill 5.
- the bill does not limit the economic zones to northern Ontario, despite claiming to want to use it there.
- there is no purpose clause in this bill
- there is no process that needs to be followed before making those designations

Since the provincial government has said it themselves, it is clear that the passing of Bill 5 will only serve to deregulate the system set out in the Endangered Species Act that Ontario has used for over a decade to help conserve and recover our native species.

I oppose Bill 5. I want stronger protections for endangered species and stronger protections for the environment. I strongly oppose shortcuts for industry. I oppose overriding the law in special economic zones. Enough of the environment has been disregarded and abused.
I have great concerns about these proposed changes. I believe this is a continued erosion of due process and a means of fast tracking and approving land for use that will have long term environmental effects.
