I 100% do not support this initiative by the province of Ontario. You are taking away local decision making. I use my conservation areas frequently even buying annual passes - and I do not want to join with Peel or any other regions. Read more

This is a gravely misguided proposal. It’s designed to allow rural municipalities to abandon environmental stewardship to lower costs. It created mega authorities who will be unable to defend their watersheds effectively. The proposal should be withdrawn.

As a resident of Hamilton, I don't agree with the merger. I agree with Hamilton Conservation Authority's submission to the ERO. I'm very concerned about the effect of losing local decision-making, the lack of justification for this merger, and the lack of a robust funding plan. Read more

I am strongly against this proposal, and am in support of the Hamilton Conservation Authority's position and submission to the ERO. As a Hamilton resident and longtime member of the HCA, it is very important to me that decision-making about our local conservation areas remains in our community.

The rationale for this initiative appears to be primarily focused on land development and centralizing decision making for issuing associated permits. It is not clear how this frees up existing conservation authority staff to address public safety issues related to natural hazards, etc. Read more

I am against the proposal of merging all the conservation areas here in Ontario to just 7. I am concerned that it'll take away local autonomy from conservation groups, farmers and local residents who know intimately about the area. Read more

Please keep the conservation areas local. If it is expanded it will be in entirely different ecosystems and we lose local expertise and knowledge of the specific challenges and needs of the area. Merging is a terrible idea and is not to be moved forward with
