As a falconry sponsor, I firmly believe that expanding the Wild Take by omitting the lottery style draw will further encourage falconers to become licensed and go through the apprenticeship process vs the option to fly a non-indigenous species without a falconry license. Lire davantage

I believe Falconers have played an important role in raptor conservation and by allowing more falconers to have access to wild birds, the MNRF is encouraging more active conservation and citizen science. You will be a better educated falconer if you can take a bird from the wild. Lire davantage

My friend is an active falconer. I have been made aware of the existing laws and regulations surrounding falconry in Ontario and am supportive of these changes. Thank you for finally doing away with the draw. Lire davantage

I support this proposal as a licensed falconer I think having more access to wild birds will encourage more falconers to become licensed and complete an apprenticeship vs flying a non-indigenous species without a falconry license. This will help to create more skilled falconers in the long run. Lire davantage

Hello, my fathers a falconer and also got me into falconry at a young age. I support the MNRF’s endeavour to expand the wild take. Being a falconer has opened my eyes to nature and the part falconers have played in conservation. Thanks Brad

I find this to be a very reasonable policy update. We are at a time when budget's are going to be stretched to the limit, this is the common sense approach and partnerships that will be needed for the continuing success of our wildlife programs.

I fully support this proposal because there are secure numbers of goshawks and taking 5 from the wild per year will not make any impact. Lire davantage

I am familiar with falconry and understand that there has been a draw system since 2011 where 25 people are allowed to capture a wild bird for falconry purposes. Doing away with the draw system and permitting those with a falconry licence to trap a new bird is good for falconry. Lire davantage

My father has been an active falconer for as long as I can remember (37 years) He is passionate about falconry and cares very much about educating other falconers. Lire davantage

I support this proposal as I believe Falconry helps support the wild bird population. Having these birds as hunting partners increased these wild birds likelyhood to survive their first winter. If they don't have a successful hunt they will be fed at the end of the day. Lire davantage

As a passionate hunter and knowing a licensed falconer personally, I am aware of how important our roles are in the conservation of our respective animals and also how often our roles are over looked or twisted negatively when connected to words such as "killing" and "trapping" versus "capture" or " Lire davantage

As a licensed falconer I’ve often skipped years applying to the wild take authorization because I don’t want to take a band away from other falconers. A lot of us think of others that way. Lire davantage

I believe the expansion of falconer's ability to capture and train wild bird will benefit the population within Canada. It allows our licensed individuals the option rescue and potentially re-release (in some cases) birds that may not survive without intervention. Lire davantage

Hello, I have read the new proposal and express my total support for it. Removing the limited number of wild take permit will ensure that every aspiring falconer and seasoned one can have access to a bird listed on the regulation. Lire davantage

I'm a Maser Falconer in the USA practicing falconry for 12 years. In all my experience and education relating to falconry and wild take, I've not learned of any adverse impact from taking certain raptors from the wild as hunting partners. Lire davantage

I am in favour of this proposal because it supports a vital part of falconry heritage, which is recognized by UNESCO as “Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity”. Allowing more falconers to trap wild birds of prey to use as falconry birds is continuing on a tradition that dates back to 4000 bc.

Although I am not a falconer, I have always been interested in wildlife, the preservation of wildlife and the interaction of humans and all wild species. When friends decided to take a hunting course, I also applied to learn about hunting and what impact it has on our native species. Lire davantage
