As a Canadian province, Ontario is bound by the International Agreement on Trapping Standards, which prohibits the use of the proposed snares. Most European countries have long prohibited the use of snares and have adopted instead the use of more humane methods to trap threatening wildlife. Lire davantage

This type of traping is a very cruel method and should no longer be allowed. The scientific data needs to be published so the public and government official can make informed decisions. Society needs to learn to live with wildlife as we encroach more and more on the territories.

I have a number of concerns re the proposed changes to the trapping regulations. I would be most interested in seeing the research behind this decision - none has been provided. Lire davantage

In my opinion trapping of any sort is inhumane & causes terrible suffering for the trapped animal....cruel ...join these other countries & ban these traps...

Before any changes occur to these laws the research findings need to be published for peer review. The laws should prioritize the welfare of the animal being trapped. Killing and restraining snares should not be used to trap wildlife. Lire davantage

Can you please make available the "peer reviewed research" that supports relaxing the current cable restraining specifications. The reasons you have given "pelt damage" does not justify reducing the cable diameter. Lire davantage

Killing and restraining snares should not be used to trap wildlife in Ontario as research has shown that they result in negative animal welfare outcomes for both target and non-target animals. Lire davantage

This is shocking news ...that the government should only rely on advice from organizations such as the Fur Institute or trappers (clearly vested interests) for information on snares. Lire davantage

I am not happy about the proposal at all! Ontario and Canada should be doing what many other countries are doing: all snares should be banned! Farmers should be encouraged to use non-lethal, predator-friendly methods. Animals are sentient beings. They experience pain and emotion. Lire davantage

In believe that laws around trapping need to prioritize animal welfare and should be informed by current, peer-reviewed science, not guidelines created by the commercial fur industry.
