I am deeply opposed to the proposed sale of any designated provincial parkland in Wasaga Beach. Ford nor his government own our Provincial Parks, Ontarians do and therefore, this proposal should be subject to a provincial referendum to let the people decide. Ford of course would never consider a referendum because he knows what the result would be; a resounding no! This proposal sets a dangerous precedent; the selling of protected parkland to boost the local economy and development. It is especially egregious since the lands are part of a large freshwater beach and coastal dune system that is vital breeding habitat for the endangered piping plover. This little shorebird is slowly making a comeback due to robust conservation measures implemented by a coalition of universities, NGOs, volunteers and government agencies on both sides of the border. Still in 2025, there were only an estimated 14 individuals nesting in Ontario and only 85 nesting pairs throughout the Great Lakes Region. Ford has to quit governing by fiat and listen to the people especially when it comes to the protection and management of our natural heritage.
