Let's tell it like it is. This is a death watch geared towards elimination of these cottages. I no longer have a direct connection to this area however i have a historical link and i find that this link is meaningful.

I disagree with the proposed amendment. I think the leases should terminate as previously negotiated. Lease owners understood the terms. Some are harming the wildlife. Rondeau is an anomoly in the provincial park system, and it's time to end that.
As a conservation biologist working on Ontario for the past twenty years I am dismayed at the proposal by the Province to extend the leases yet again in Rondeau Provincial Park, especially considering that ecological integrity is the mandate for the park system.
I am strongly against the Ontario government's recently announced intention to extend cottage leases inside ecologically sensitive Rondeau Provincial Park by an additional 21 years, reneging on an earlier declaration that the leases should be terminated in 2017.
We have been enjoying visits to a Rondeau Cottager since 1999. We are happy that the Ontario Government is serious about discussing the best way to extend the cottage leases beyond Dec. 2017, but we have reservations about the plan that has been proposed.
A decision has been made in 1986 to terminate the leases in 2017 and clearly communicated to the cottagers in Rondeau Park. They have had plenty of time to prepare...and they still have 7 years !!!! to make their plans.
I am a professional scientist in conservation biology. I believe that new cottage leases in Rondeau Provincial Park would be contrary to the best interests of Ontario society at large.
The proposal being put forward by the MNR for Rondeau lease renewals shows vrtually no input from the people most affected by the proposal, namely the Rondeau cottagers.
The key date for changes to the leaseholders of record is Sept.1, 2010 at 4:30 PM. Why was this information not made public? Is this how a democratic government works in 2010? What would have been wrong with giving people most affected, a window of 8 weeks to get their 'house in order'?
The blocking of any lease transfers or lease changes after Sept. 1 2010 when no notice was given is a bully tactic and very unfair to future generations.
I support Ontario Nature's position asking the Government of Ontario to reconsider the proposal to extend Rondeau cottage leases to 2038. In other words, the leases should be terminated in 2017.
