As a young person I care deeply about the future availability of conservation areas for my future and for future generations. This plan is short sighted and will harm the environment, one of Ontario’s most valuable resources. I am strongly against this proposal.
The consolidation of the Conservation Authorities should not go forward and decision-making should remain local to the area. There would be several negative impacts of this bill.

I agree with the Hamilton Conservation Authority's submission to the ERO. Conservation authorities, including the HCA, bring the knowledge and expertise specific to each local conservation area.

Local and municipal input and control is critical. Consolidating Conservation Authorities will undermine local oversight.

I strongly oppose consolidating CAs and experts agree this is a terrible idea. Local expertise and oversight is critical for effective management of environmental issues. The management zones proposed are simply too large to be able to support the diverse issues affecting the regions.
Conservation authorities were created to manage Ontario watersheds for all members of the province to prevent flooding in additional to other priorities.

This proposal does not serve the individual municipalities well. Larger oversight of areas means care that is not municipality specific and will be too generalized. Local control means specialized care for our specific concerns.

I do not support the proposed consolidation of my local conservation authority (cataraqui conservation) into the St Lawrence Regional Conservation Authority. I have read the document and I have to agree with the comment provided by my local conservation authority (Cataraqui Conservation Authority)

We live in eastern Ontario and are part of the Raisin river conservation authority. As a rural area our needs are much different from urban areas such as Ottawa’s. we need to keep local representation based on watersheds to address these needs.

In the last 3 years, you (our government) reviewed the species at risk act and altered it to amalgamate species over a larger geography, thereby diminishing protection in smaller demographies.

As an Ontario resident, I am extremely concerned about the Province’s proposal to merge 36 Conservation Authorities into just seven large regional bodies. While I support modernization, efficiency, and consistent standards, I do not believe large-scale consolidation is the right approach.

I am writing to share my concern with the proposed amalgamation of Conservation Authorities, and specifically the proposed Western Lake Ontario Regional Conservation Authority.

This change removes local accountability. The very concept of Canservation Authorities is based on solving watershed problems at the watershed level using local knowledge and expertise. Centralization into regional bodies breaks this association and will especially harm rural communities.

I am strongly opposed to this proposal. It risks and undermines the current service and citizen protection. Local knowledge and expertise will be attenuated. The Provincial Government will be sidestepping an important service of flood protection to citizens.

This is another example of the Ford government's incredible lack of concern for Ontario's environment and its attempt to meddle with local governance.
